"From the beginning it has been our hope that the Order would serve a useful purpose in causing the Scout Promise and Law to spring into action, especially in the Scout camps in all parts of our nation.  We are still dedicated to this high purpose."

E. Urner Goodman, Founder of the Order of the Arrow

Lodge Activities

Are you ready for the excitement
of the Order of the Arrow?
Order of the ArrowWell -- Read on to see what you can do
as a new arrowman in the
Order of the Arrow and Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge!

Lodge Fellowships:

Fellowships are a time to meet old friends and share in the enthusiasm of the Order.  The Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge has two fellowships each year: one in the Spring and the other in the Fall. Arrowmen from around the Blue Ridge Council gather at Camp Old Indian for such things as work projects, Patch Trading, Training Sessions, Quest Events, Spirit competitions, ceremonies, Native American Dancing, and great food.  At the Spring Fellowship, we have a Brotherhood Ceremony and the annual patch auction.  The Lodge officers are elected at the Spring Fellowship. At the Fall Fellowship , we have another brotherhood ceremony and the Vigil honor induction.

Chapter Meetings:

Many of the chapters in Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge hold monthly chapter meeting, except during the summer.  These meetings are vital to the success of the Lodge, and are located closer to most arrowmen than the Lodge events.  If the chapter in your area does not have regular meetings, please contact your chapter chief to help start them.  Many chapters perform important service projects for their communities.

Chapter Meetings are an important way to deepen friendships with other Arrowmen in your area, and to learn about the happenings in the Lodge.

Winter Banquet:

At the beginning of each year, Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge holds it's Winter Banquet.  The Banquet offers a time for arrowmen and their families to come together with other arrowmen to enjoy a delicious meal. Guest speakers are featured at the banquets, and often a special program will complement the night's activities.  Some past speakers have included elected officials, national officers of the order, former camp staff members, and even the Lodge's first Chief.  In addition, the Lodge officers for the year are recognized at the banquet.  Also, awards from the past year are presented, including the prestigious Founders Award.

Dixie Fellowship:

The Dixie fellowship is a a gathering of lodges in OA Southern Region Section 5, which includes Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge and ten other lodges in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. This "granddaddy" of all fellowships promises an action packed weekend in April. Each year, the Dixie Fellowship is hosted by different lodge in the section.  The number of delegates the lodge can send to Dixie varies, depending on the size of the camp that hosts Dixie that year.

Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge requires that you attend at least one of the preceding (Spring or Fall) fellowships in order to attend the Dixie Fellowship.

Lodge Leadership Development Conference (LLDC)

All Lodge and Chapter officers, advisers, and interested arrowmen are invited and encouraged to attend this training seminar.  The LLDC includes carious sessions on leadership, the role of chapters and advisers, unit elections, Indian heritage and other topics of interest to arrowmen. Goals are established for the new year and Planbooks are issued.

Wednesday Night Dance Pageant:

The Wednesday Night Dance pageants, held during Camp Old Indian resident camp, are put on by the Atta Kulla Kulla Lodge Dance Team with assistance from the camp staff.  These pageants are held each week of camp.  You are encouraged to attend at least one of the dance pageants each year.

Lodge Cookout:

Another great event for arrowmen and their families to enjoy fellowship - and FOOD!  There will be lots of Music and sports like ultimate Frisbee and volleyball.  This promises to be an exciting day of fun and fellowship for you and your family.

National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC):

The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) is usually held every two years at a college or university near the center of the United States. A large location is required because this is a huge event.  Arrowmen from across the country come together for five days of training sessions, competitions, patch trading, and shows.  There is something new every day, and it is virtually impossible to run out of things to do. NOAC is an excellent opportunity to participate in the order.

National Leadership Seminar:

The national Leadership Seminar is a special honor for those members who are Lodge and chapter officers.  It is a weekend conference to which the Lodge can send no more that ten arrowmen.  The conference concentrates on the applications of leadership in any situation.  At the end of this challenging course, participants make contracts with themselves to apply their skills toward their lodge, Council and community.

National OA Programs:   Wilderness Voyage

The Order of the Arrow provides several programs to benefit its members and scouting.  The Wilderness Voyage at Northern Tier is an adventure programs that allows you to give meaningful service, form lifelong friendships, and learn about leadership.

National OA Programs:   OA Trail Crew

The Order of the Arrow is offering you an opportunity to join other Arrowmen in cheerful service and the formation of lasting brotherhood on the trails of Philmont Scout Ranch on the OA Trail Crew. Under the direction of the Philmont Conservation Department, experienced Philmont staff members with strong Order of the Arrow backgrounds will lead participants on the two week trail crew and trek.

The program is a fourteen day experience. The first week focuses on trail construction and maintenance under the guidance of Philmont trail crew foremen. The second week is a seven day backpacking trek that is designed by the participants. The program is not simply building trail and hiking though, the OA Trail Crew is ultimately a journey that challenges Scouts mentally, physically, and spiritually.

The cost for selected youth participants is $125 for a two-week experience.  A Flash Multimedia presentation on the OA Trail Crew is available online.

National OA Programs:   Philbreak

Under the direction of experienced Philmont staff members, you will take part in a week-long service-based program.

The work will be strenuous but fun. You will be expected to work eight or nine hour days in all types of conditions. It will be imperative that you work with great diligence, as your time to make a positive impact on Philmont will be limited.

The cost for selected youth participants is $100 for a one-week experience.
